Get some insight into the backstory of Overwatch’s upcoming support healer.

Today at BlizzCon 2017, the Overwatch team shared new details about the game’s upcoming hero Moira and new map Blizzard World.

As revealed during Blizzard’s opening ceremony, Moira is a support healer who can also deliver a significant amount of damage. During an Overwatch-focused panel that followed, Blizzard shared a few details about the character’s backstory.

Moira is scientist, but she isn’t interested in conquering the world. Instead, Moira is a geneticist who primarily wants to learn more about humans, and doesn’t let morals compromise her scientific pursuits. She was recruited to be a member of Blackwatch, but has since allied herself with Talon.

Biotic Grasp is her main weapon, which has Regeneration as its primary fire. Decay is its alternate fire, allowing her to drain energy from others. Additionally, Moira has the Fade ability, making her incredibly mobile on the battlefield. She also has the Biotic Orb ability, which, like Biotic Grasp, has Regeneration as its primary fire and Decay as its alternate fire. Finally, her ultimate ability is Coalesce, which provides the best of both worlds, sending out a long-range beam with both Regenerate and Decay effects.

The Overwatch team also shared concept art for a couple alternate skins, which you can see below:

Blizzard also discussed Blizzard World, which is an amusement park-themed map that celebrates the studio’s various popular franchises. Everything from Warcraft to StarCraft to Diablo is represented, but the Overwatch series itself is not featured in the park.

As detailed during the reveal earlier today, Blizzard World is a hybrid map that’s part Assault, part Payload. There are various interiors to strategize from and plenty of flanking routes, as each team moves their payload through the different themed areas of the map. The map will arrive on the PTR soon and arrive early next year.
